STORAGE
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) provide flexibility and stability, enabling them to cope with the variability of generation using renewable technologies, allowing a continuous response adapted to the needs of the generator and the system operator.
In Spain, according to the PNIEC, 2.5GW of BESS power is expected to be installed in the national electricity transmission and distribution grid by 2030. Among other measures, the Spanish administration promotes the implementation of storage systems through the Access Capacity Competitions regulated by Royal Decree 1183/2020, where the score of the solutions provided by the promoters is increased by hybridising renewable plants with BESS.
INOVE provides engineering and consultancy services for the hybridisation of BESS systems with renewable plants and for BESS stand-alone systems. The design of the hybridisation between renewables and BESS requires the appropriate study to optimise the LCOE of the set and the LCOS of the BESS system itself, with the ultimate aim of maximising the financial returns of the project.

Why hydrogen?
Curiously, the first question that arises from INOVE is addressed to project promoters who consider that hydrogen could be a good opportunity. Whether the project opens up a new business avenue or is a solution to reduce energy costs or to replace raw materials with a sustainable alternative, we analyse together with our client whether it makes sense to start up the project and, if so, what scope it can cover, what size or at what cost.
What is the technically feasible solution?
The choice of the electrolysis technology that best suits the objectives of the project is a key decision that can affect the profitability of the project from the outset. But it is not the only one. Choosing the supplier of the different elements that make up a hydrogen production or supply system also requires knowledge of the sector and negotiating skills.
What is the cost?
Each project is different in terms of its technical approach or the objective it pursues. What is common to all projects, and even more so in this sector, is to have from the outset an approximation of the investment needed to undertake the project and a cost reduction strategy that takes into account all market factors and trends.
How much hydrogen can be produced?
We make all the calculations to determine in advance the hydrogen production we can expect and thus set a strategy for optimising the energy system or for commercial development.
At what price?
We take into account all the variables that will determine the cost of hydrogen production (LCOH) over time and establish the potential profitability of the project.
Can my project be a candidate for public subsidies?
Whether the project is eligible for public or private funding, it is necessary to have an in-depth analysis of the technical and economic feasibility in order to convince the evaluators of its soundness.

- In the critical phases of the project, prior to execution, we accompany our clients to find ways to accelerate its approval.
- In financing, we collaborate in the search for financial alternatives that guarantee viability and in the preparation of technical reports that provide consistency to the project before investors, private financial entities or Public Administrations.
- In the identification, selection and negotiation with suppliers. The largest investment in a project linked to renewable hydrogen has to do with the purchase of equipment. A strategy for identifying and negotiating with the right suppliers will make it possible to significantly optimise CAPEX, which is only possible with detailed knowledge of the market and its alternatives.
- In processing. Knowledge of the still evolving regulations governing the renewable hydrogen sector is essential for a project to get the green light in a timely manner. From production certification, environmental or safety procedures to local town planning regulations, we take into account all the factors to ensure that the project moves forward.
WE EXECUTE
In collaboration with the different Business Units of the VINCI Group, we can implement any type of project, whatever its size, location or approach: a hydrogen production plant with associated photovoltaic production, a hydrogen supply station for logistics fleets, a system for injecting hydrogen into the pipeline or blending with natural gas?
